Molecular Technologist / Molecular Technician

Position Summary


The Molecular Technologist / Technician is responsible for performing routine molecular biology laboratory procedures, analyzing experimental and diagnostic data, and supporting laboratory operations. This role ensures accurate execution of assays, proper documentation of results, and clear communication of findings to supervisors and cross-functional teams.


Key Responsibilities


  • Perform routine molecular biology techniques, including but not limited to:
    • DNA/RNA extraction and purification
    • PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR
    • Nucleic acid quantification and quality assessment
    • Gel electrophoresis and related assays
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), laboratory protocols, and quality control standards (e.g., CLIA, CAP, or GLP as applicable).
  • Accurately record experimental data, maintain laboratory notebooks, and ensure proper documentation in LIMS or other data systems.
  • Analyze experimental and/or clinical data using appropriate software tools and methodologies.
  • Prepare data summaries, reports, and visualizations; present findings to supervisors or project teams.
  • Assist in assay validation, optimization, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Maintain inventory of reagents and consumables; support ordering and restocking.
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations and maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment.
  • Collaborate with team members and support cross-functional projects as needed.


Qualifications

  

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, or a related field.
  • Associate degree with relevant experience may be considered for Technician level.

Experience:

  • 1-3 years of hands-on laboratory experience (academic or industry).
  • Experience with molecular techniques such as PCR/qPCR preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Strong understanding of molecular biology principles.
  • Ability to accurately follow protocols and pay close attention to detail.
  • Basic data analysis and interpretation skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word); familiarity with data analysis software is a plus.
  • Good organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Reporting Structure

  • Reports directly to: Laboratory Supervisor / Lab Manager
  • Works closely with: Scientists, QA/RA personnel, and cross-functional teams
